Concrete repair ranges from genuinely cost-effective to money spent on work that will fail in the same location within a few years. The difference is whether the repair addresses the root cause.
Section replacement: the most durable repair
Cutting out a damaged panel at the joints, removing it, inspecting and correcting the base, and pouring a replacement section is the most structurally sound repair approach.
Crack routing and filling: appropriate for surface cracks
Routing a crack and filling it with polymer filler prevents water infiltration but does not restore structural integrity. Appropriate for cracks in slabs that are otherwise stable.
Repairs that are not worth doing
Any repair applied over an active drainage problem, any patch applied to a slab with widespread cracking and settlement, or any surface repair on concrete that has failed at the sub-base level. These repairs will fail early.
